Cindy’s Story

April 21st, 2009 by | Tags: , , , | 4 Comments »

One day at the Cochlear™ Celebration, I came across two ladies sitting in the lobby chatting and laughing hysterically together. Laughing is so contagious that I even giggled by just simply watching them. I introduced myself to these two ladies, Cindy and Nelda, and photographed them, and of course, we shared our stories. The very next day at the dinner party at the Disneyland, I asked Cindy if I could videotape her since I was touched by her story. She was born deaf and grew up with hearing aids. She did not receive a CI until much later in her life, when she was an adult. Her CI changed her life, and she is very grateful to have it. Here is Cindy’s video!

What a great video! I worked with Cindy for 2 years when my husband was stationed at Travis AFB in CA. She is a wonderful person who is full of life. She works very hard as an advocate on behalf of the deaf community in CA and elsewhere because of the blessings she has received in her life through the people around her and organizations like Cochlear Amercias. She is truly and amazing woman. If you have the opportunity to meet her, don’t miss out! I knew retirement wouldn’t slow her down one bit. Love you Cindy!

Here are stories from a variety of cochlear implant recipients. The stories feature people with a variety of hearing histories. Some are written, others are captioned videos. Check it out: Speaking Up for Themselves.
