I just learned that Will Ferrell’s newest movie, “Step Brothers“, will feature a character who is a cochlear implant surgeon. In the movie, Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly play two lazy adult children who live at home with their parents but are forced to live as step-brothers when their parents, Mary Steenburgen and Richard Jenkins marry. Richard Jenkins’s character is supposed to be employed as a cochlear implant surgeon.
Sony Pictures consulted with Cochlear™ to gain factual information for the film, but the company did not have any control over the script’s content. So while the movie crew received the correct information, there is no telling how they chose to use these facts or present information about CIs.
The movie premiered on July 25th. It is rated R, so it’s definitely not for children.
Who knows? This could be a great way to introduce cochlear implants to a broader audience. I can’t wait to see for myself… I’m keeping my fingers crossed!
