Listening and Spoken Language

Today, children who receive cochlear implants before the age of one year old can learn their family’s first language and to communicate with an ease via hearing with cochlear implants and speaking. Rachel, the founder of this website, and her sister, Jessica, was raised with the Auditory-Verbal approach. While the Auditory-Verbal approach is indeed a very successful method of teaching deaf children to learn to hear and speak, there are also who used the Auditory-Oral approach and also learned to hear and speak successfully.
