Elizabeth’s Update

August 21st, 2014 by | Tags: | Comments Off

Yesterday, Rachel shared some exciting news about her upcoming service in the Peace Corps.  Just as she will be moving to a new country, I have, too!  My husband and I recently relocated to Toronto, Canada, but that’s just one of several exciting changes that have happened in my life recently…

At the 2014 AG Bell Convention this summer, I sat for the Listening and Spoken Language Specialist (LSLS) exam.  Just a few weeks ago, I received word that I had passed.  My dream since I was in fifth grade has become a reality — I am now a Listening and Spoken Language Specialist Certified Auditory-Verbal Therapist (LSLS Cert. AVT)!

My other big news is that I’ve decided to open a private practice providing auditory verbal therapy and other services to children and adults with hearing loss around the world via teletherapy.  My work with CIO and other hearing loss organizations has shown me that there is a real need for high quality, family-centered listening and spoken language intervention.  Too many children and families are denied the gift of listening and spoken language just because of where they live.  Too many parents feel like spectators, not equal participants, in their children’s development.  Thanks to high-tech videoconferencing technology, I’m on a mission to make sure that every child around the world has access to auditory verbal therapy if that is their parents’ desire for their future.

You can find out more information about my private practice services by visiting my Website.  I hope you’ll also like my Facebook page to receive updates and lots of listening and spoken language information and inspiration.  I’ll still be around here, too, writing and interacting with readers at Cochlear Implant Online.

Thank you for all of your support over the years.  It has been, and continues to be, my pleasure and my privilege to walk alongside so many of you on your hearing journeys.
