Jessica Gosselin MEd LSLS Cert. AVT, John Tracy Clinic

Jessica is the absolute best AVT we have ever had. She guided us for the first two years of our daughter’s life. Held my hand literally and figuratively every week. Supported us and taught us how to be strong teachers for our daughter as she learned to listen and speak, before and after her implants. She is fun, caring, honest, and extremely good at her job. She deserves all the awards she could possibly get. John Tracy Clinic is the single most important stop on the our road to listening and speaking success. They are all fantastic, dedicated wonderful people. I am so grateful for all they do.

Karen MacIver-Lux M.A. Aud(C) Reg. CASLPO LSLS Cert. AVT, SoundIntuition

Karen is an amazing, warm person and an incredible professional. She started working with our son when everyone else had give up on him including the AVT he was seeing at that time.  She is the best AVT and has a clear understanding of hearing loss and ANSD.  She was able to establish contact with a nonverbal 3 year old boy, teach him and us, his family, and eventually guide us to a correct diagnoses of ANSD.  She went above and beyond her professional obligations and supported us every step of the way.  She’s made numerous trips to the hospital to allow for a better hearing testing, to his school to evaluate the environment and to train his teachers.   She connected us with the best team and was tireless with help.  I am forever in her debt.  She is a beautiful kind person and means the world to us.

Warren Estabrooks M.Ed. Dip. Ed. Deaf LSLS Cert. AVT, WE Listen International Inc., Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Warren has done so much work globally to bring awareness about cochlear implants and auditory-verbal therapy to professionals and parents.  I have seen first hand, the incredible work he does with professionals.  Once the professionals complete their professional training program with Warren, they are well equipped to work with children with hearing and their families.  As well, the professionals “pay it forward” and move on to train other professionals in their country.  The quality of therapy that these professionals do is quite impressive.  Sweden, is an example of one country was previously offering only ONE option for children who are deaf and hard of hearing, which was sign language.  After his training program, Sweden has grown into a country that offers another option… AVT! His work and legacy continues on in Sweden through the professionals he trained.  On a personal level, I would like to nominate Warren for being my hearing hero because he travelled to Germany to be with me  pre- and post- activation of my CI… and for encouraging me to listen and succeed by providing aggressive auditory skills training.  My admiration for him continues, as he has worked with so many children from the 70s and on..helping them and their families to embrace all opportunities to hear, listen and talk.  I’m proud to nominate him as my HEARing hero.

Amy Birath AuD CCC-A/SLP FAAA LSLS Cert. AVEd, The Moog Center for Deaf Education, St. Louis, MO

Amy is a great speech and language pathologist, who aided my daughter in speech and language from ages 6-9.  She was very willing to try new ideas, listen to our concerns, etc.  She was exceptional in getting Shelby to speak!  We love her and hope she wins!
